Quince Italian Wool Cocoon Coat Review

Last Updated on January 9, 2025 by travelingwithsunscreen

Quince has quickly become one of my go-to brands. I love their cashmere sweaters. I love their linen pants. I even have (and love) their suitcase! Friends accuse me of mentioning Quince too often. But I just love them! So, I was so excited to try out their Italian Wool Cocoon Coat in preparation for an upcoming winter trip to Rome. Here’s my honest review of the Quince Italian Wool Cocoon Coat.

First impressions of the Italian Wool Cocoon Coat

This coat is stylish! As I wore it on the streets of Rome, people kept mistaking me for a local and asking me for directions, which I took to be an excellent sign. I opted for classic black, but the cocoon coat comes in seven colors, and I was also tempted by the camel and charcoal options.

The wool of the coat is warm, and the lining is very soft and sleek.

This coat can be worn open or closed for two different looks. I like both, but I prefer wearing the coat open if it’s not too chilly out! The temperatures on my trip to Rome were mostly in the 40’s and 50’s F, and I was very comfortable in this coat. (I did wear it at home one day when the temperatures dropped below 20 degrees F, and I wished that I had been wearing my long puffer coat. I am tempted to try Quince’s extremely cozy-looking long down puffer, but I haven’t yet!)

Diving into the details: the pockets

This coat has three pockets, two on the outside and one hidden pocket on the inside. The outside pockets are placed perfectly to put my hands in when I’m walking. I very much appreciate the inner hidden pocket for keeping small valuables safe while walking.

The buttons of the Cocoon Coat

The buttons were the thing I was most skeptical about when purchasing a cocoon-style coat. Because they are hidden, I worried that it might be a bit of a pain to button and unbutton them.

Here’s what I found: it’s not quite as convenient as buttoning and unbuttoning traditional coat buttons. However, each buttonhole has a little slit in the seam that allows you to reach your fingers inside and pull the button through. I didn’t notice these at first, but once I did, the buttons stopped bothering me.

Quince’s responsible manufacturing

While the fabrics are made in Italy, the cocoon coat itself is produced in China in a Sedex-certified factory. This means that the factory uses ethical labor standards and sustainable practices. You can learn more what this means here.

Sizing and fit

I ordered the Quince Italian Wool Cocoon Coat in small, which is the size that I usually wear. The fit is good! The sleeves and coat are both a perfect length on me (I’m 5’5″), and the coat is slim-fit without being too snug or restrictive.

I would order the size that usually fits you best. That said, Quince has a very easy 365-day returns program (you literally just show a QR code at the post office, no printing necessary), so if the size you order isn’t perfect, it’s very easy to switch it out for one that is.

Pricing

Quince is known for its quality products at relatively low prices, and the Italian Wool Cocoon Coat is no exception. It’s priced at less than $170, which is about $100 cheaper than Aritzia’s cocoon coat, for example.

Quince’s shipping and returns

Quince always has free shipping and 365-day returns. I mentioned it before, but I love their returns process. You just package up the item and bring it to the post office. You show them a QR code and they take the package. No need to print anything!

Overall pros and cons of the Quince Italian Wool Cocoon Coat

My favorite thing about this coat is its stylishness. It looks great dressed down with jeans, and although I’m not a big dresser-upper, it would also look great for a more formal night out. I felt great walking around the streets of Rome with this coat on! It was also cozy and comfy in the 40’s and 50’s F, enough so that I felt comfortable sitting outside for dinner to enjoy watching the people go by. I also love that the ethical manufacturing of this coat.

I would say that if you’re looking for a coat for everyday wear in somewhere with very cold winters, you might be better off with a puffer or maybe even the longer version of this cocoon coat. However, this coat could still be a great transitional piece for late fall and early spring as the weather starts to turn.

I really recommend the Quince Italian Wool Cocoon Coat! Try it out for yourself!
